Legs Up The Wall

legs up the wall

There are a couple of ways you can hold this pose.  You can try it with your legs straight up the wall.  This is the basic version of this pose.  The other version is with your legs in a V shape.  You will put the soles of your feet together with your knees pointing outward in a V shape.

All you need for this pose is a yoga mat and either a towel folded twice long-ways or a pillow.  Whether it is a towel or a pillow, you will need something under your hips to raise your hips a little off the floor.  And of course you will need a wall that meets the floor so you can be in an L position on the floor.

Relaxing music can help with this exercise to relax your mind and body. There are many benefits that this pose offers.  It has been known to improve the effects of headaches, anxiety, high or low blood pressure, mild depression, menstrual cramps, digestive problems, insomnia, and menopause.  It can also reduce the effects of stress by refreshing your heart and lungs while quieting your mind.

Just lay there with your feet up, listen to the relaxing quiet music, and pay attention to your breathing.  You should be taking long deep breaths and as you exhale, feel your body sink further and further into the floor.  You should become entirely relaxed throughout your mind, body, and soul.
